I did my first century of the year today. A fairly epic ride, over to the Chilterns and we took on Whiteleaf a top 100 climb. Being the first really big ride of the year it was also my first day consuming a load of gels and bars. I find the bars really hard to chew, gels are a bit better but on a long ride they’re a bit limiting as I can’t stomach too many. I’d love to know what you’re all eating on the bike, is there anything easy to eat that also tastes good and gives you the required energy? With my L’Etape Du Tour coming up soon I’d love to find better ride food. You can comment below and let me know.
What do you eat when you ride?

Well done you ….Take into account your hydration too , I use TORQ energy ( 2:1 Maltodextrin : Fructose ) mixed with gels and bars and the odd banana
I’ve been a big fan of the Osmo hydration for about a year, it’s specifically formulated for women. I did try the Torq energy in my bottle for this ride, I couldn’t sleep on Monday night. As it’s the first time I tried it I thought it was to blame. Maybe that was Whiteleaf 🙂
Hi
sadly I have the same problem. too many gels just really get to me, I can digest some of the bars I have the go- bar banana and sometimes a bar made by powerbar. But I also wrap up some malt loaf individually so I can eat them as and when. Ive also tried peanut butter and banana in finegr rolls cut in half warpped in foil. again not always appetising after 4 hours in your back pocket but its a change from the gloup of a gel. and I do avail myself of the food thats available at feed stations such as flap jacks as jelly babies. I have 4:1 in my bottles as well and have 2 spare measures to replace waht ive drunk in my under saddle pack. but I do wish I could find soemthing a little better myself
regards
Steve
Hi Steve, thank you for all these suggestions. I’m going to try some malt loaf tomorrow and some other home made stuff. I do like the powerbar ride bars but they melt so easily, they’re great in the winter. I’ve also placed an order with these guys http://www.thepedalbites.cc I found them on Instagram they look good. I’ll review as soon as I can
